Project
123 House
The 123 House in Nedlands, designed by architect Neil Cownie, exemplifies the thoughtful integration of environmental design and aesthetic heritage. Strategically positioned at a busy intersection, the house maximises natural light, particularly through controlled northern exposure that brightens the living spaces during winter months. This careful attention to how the light acts in the space is continued through to the thoughtful and subtle selections for lighting throughout the space, which acts to enhance the textures, forms and architecture while considering the movement and usage of the occupants above all else. The lighting of the space not only enhances the residents' comfort but also underscores the architectural blend of the owners' Greek heritage, the site's former life as a petrol station and the local Nedlands style. The design elegantly incorporates elements reminiscent of the site's history, including concrete impressions and coloured glass, creating a unique and personal living environment for the retired couple.
