Lighting for the Game | Four New Sporting Projects Across WA

Aug 19, 2025

At Sii Light, we understand that every sport requires different lighting: Whether it’s the sharp clarity needed on a tennis court, the wide bright coverage for an AFL oval, or the rugged resilience required for a BMX track in the Pilbara, our approach is never one size fits all. This month, we’re celebrating four new projects that show what tailored, high-performance lighting can do for community sport across WA.

Hammersley Public Golf Course

The redevelopment of Hamersley Public Golf Course was already impressive, a $20 million upgrade breathing new life into a much-loved public space. Our lighting scope focused on the key pedestrian areas, car parks and pathways that support the broader use of the course and clubhouse, especially after dark.

Using industrial floodlights from DarkLicht, we delivered an even glow that improves safety and access without ever intruding on the peaceful green surroundings. Considerations of both horizontal and vertical illuminance are important when lighting for golf, ensuring players have enhanced safety and visibility. The DarkLicht floods are the proven choice, to provide considered, durable and visually unobtrusive lighting.

Tom Price Bike Park

Lighting for BMX isn’t just about visibility, it’s about creating an environment where riders can feel confident pushing the limits, even as the sun sets. Tom Price Bike Park in the Shire of Ashburton is now home to a custom LED lighting solution designed for speed, movement and momentum.

The DL320 from Dark Licht delivers wide, even coverage across the track, without harsh shadows or glare. The heavy duty IP67 fittings  are built to last the tough Pilbara environment under high use and rough conditions, giving the local community more hours to ride safely and more freedom to enjoy the space on their terms.

Floreat Park Tennis Club

Floreat Park Tennis Club partnered with Sii Light to modernise their lighting system using existing 8-meter poles. The goal was to replace and upgrade the existing lighting to LEDs while lighting the courts to competition level, providing a safe and high-quality environment for players. Using the same DarkLicht LED fittings at 320W and 400W, we achieved a clean, uniform light across every court, minimising spill and glare while dramatically improving clarity. The result is a court that feels inviting after dark, where players can focus on their game under a system built specifically for their sport. This is what good tennis lighting looks like, bright where it needs to be, subtle where it matters.

City Beach Oval

Lighting a multi-use oval is never straightforward, especially one that hosts AFL, sits within a coastal suburb, and is bordered by residential areas. Our solution for City Beach Oval delivers 100 lux average light levels across the playing surface, meeting AFL training standards while maintaining tight control over spill. With this in mind the team selected the Dark Licht 1200w 5000k cut off floods, for their power, efficiency and durability.

It’s a strong, confident installation that supports year-round community use, without overwhelming the neighbourhood. Carefully selected fittings and thoughtful installation and programming mean players and coaches get the light they need, and nearby residents retain the calm, coastal atmosphere they love.
